Confusion

Thank you for your patience, especially Nan and James, while dealing with my techno-idiocy with yahoo groups and the Iampeth blog. It took me a while to distinguish the two. My confusion was too complicated to communicate in a sensible way: and who cares, really. I am now on the right track, and appreciate all your postings.

May we all enjoy the cooler than average temperatures here in La Quinta.

An Invitation from a past Master Penman

Here is an image of an invitation penned by the legendary penman and engrosser Willis A. Baird (1882-1954). Baird was an IAMPETH member; though, at that time the "E" for Engrosser had not been added it was simply 'IAMPTH'.

A little more about Baird:

Willis A. Baird achieved a skill in engraver's script that was second to none and equal to his teacher, Charlton V Howe. In this form of writing, both Baird and Howe gained reputations as excelling above all other penmen. Baird was born in Santa Cruz, California on November 14, 1882. He spent a summer at the Zanerian College, Columbus, Ohio in 1909, where he studied engrossing and a variety of penmanship styles under the great master penman, C. P. Zaner. Later that year he met William E. Dennis and worked for him, penning diplomas and other artwork as the job required. His skill at engrossing was of an exceptional level, and in 1914 he became a partner of Dennis. The Dennis and Baird Studio, located at 357 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, New York, became one of the most highly respected firms of its kind in the nation. Willis A. Baird died in Brooklyn, New York, on August 10, 1954, age 72 years.

We're HEREEEEE!

Hi everyone! We're the first ones here and are eagerly awaiting our friends to start arriving. We got here around 2:00, then drove to the hotel and got unpacked and had a bite to eat. After running a few errands we went back to the airport to pick up Barbara Calzolari who has travelled all the way from Italy!!!!!!!

The local merchants are thrilled that we're here and look forward to making our stay enjoyable. The local grocery store is about 3 1/2 blocks away from the hotel and there is a UPS mailing store in the same shopping center. Besides all of the wonderful restaurants across the street and in the hotel, there are several other places to grab a bite to eat in this small shopping center, including Subway, Pizza Hut and also a Chinese and Italian restaurant. For those of you with cars there are many, many more restaurants and shopping areas all within a short drive from the hotel.

All of the packages that we sent arrived!!!!! We also saw many others with familiar names on them. I'm sure the hotel will be thrilled to have their storage closet back again! We really did take up most of the room, plus they had boxes in a few other areas as well!

We're going to hit the hay early tonight. Plans are to have a nice breakfast then head to the airport again to pick up Barbara's luggage that got stuck in LA. Then it's back to the hotel to put the registration packets together and we're scheduled for massages in the afternoon! Can't wait for that!

Rides to La Quinta

I will be arriving shortly after 1pm on Monday and have rented a car. I won't be returning to the airport until Monday the 11th, unless US Airways is able to find a plane that fits my round trip package, though. I would be happy to have company on the way to La Quinta, however (free of charge, even; tho' I may ask you to help me navigate!).

Thank you to those of you who posted info regarding dress, as well. I'm trying to bring everything in only one pullman type suitcase - ha! I hope they have good laundry facilities (my husband suggested I take ink remover...do ya think??? ;oD. )

Hey everyone! I'm coming with a friend from San Antonio, Texas. This will be our first ever IAMPETH convention, so we're quite excited. 

Had a question about dress... what exactly is California casual?

Also, I noticed from prior conventions, that the banquet on Saturday evening was more dressy. Does anyone know of the plans for this year?

Tennis anyone?

I know it is going to be HOT in Palm Springs...and there won't be too much free time ....but if there are any 3.5-4.0 tennis players coming to convention..I would like to pick up a game.
